Building a Vision with Yogurt on Your Paperwork
There is a massive, unspoken gap in the entrepreneurial world. It is the space between having a calling that keeps you awake at night and actually having a registered, revenue-generating business.
Most publications ignore this phase because it is messy. It is full of false starts, imposter syndrome, and raw vulnerability.
But this is Start Magazine, where we honor the starting line.
Aamira Dixon is standing squarely on that line. Her vision for Uncommon Ground Collective is currently a profound, developing mission born out of a radical life change.

Aamira made the definitive choice to leave Islam and give her life to Jesus Christ. That alone makes her journey statistically rare. Data from the Pew Research Center shows that only a tiny fraction of individuals raised Muslim in the United States ever convert to Christianity. For Aamira, that decision brought healing and a completely new understanding of her creation. It also planted a seed to help others who feel stuck or unseen find their own healing.
Having a vision and executing it are two completely different realities. If you are a parent trying to build something from scratch, you know exactly what the resistance feels like.
Aamira recently faced that exact resistance just trying to attend a local Christian Business Partners meeting. She had put it off for weeks. She was battling chronic headaches. She was terrified of standing up and introducing herself. She even sat in her car with an ice pack on her head and peppermint oil on her forehead just to survive the drive.
When she finally sat down at the table, her four-year-old son spilled yogurt all over her paperwork.

Instead of crumbling, she laughed it off. She owned the reality of being a mom trying to build a dream. Her son ended up walking around fist-bumping the room, and Aamira realized she was exactly where she needed to be.
That is the true cost of entry. Securing venture capital is an entirely different game. Real entry costs are paid by pushing through the physical exhaustion and the mental hurdles just to get in the room.
The grit required to navigate this phase is staggering. Aamira is raising four children in a blended family of six, working multiple jobs, and pursuing a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

Beating the Odds: Only about 13 percent of American adults hold an advanced degree. Filter that data down to mothers raising large families while launching a vision, and the probability drops to near zero.
The momentum is steadily building. Her husband Archie recently decided to join the mission. Eight years ago, they shared a dream of building a youth center. That dream got buried under the weight of life, but it is finally coming full circle. They are stepping out to mentor youth and parents together.
Aamira is also currently writing her first book. It is an introductory look at her journey, her struggles with trust, and how she is learning to build healthy relationships.

Uncommon Ground Collective exists as a promise right now. Aamira is putting in the sweat equity to build faith-based mentorship programs and community initiatives to help people break unhealthy cycles.
