If you want to test someone’s stamina, hand them a phone and ask them to make one hundred cold calls in a single day. It is a grueling process that separates the dreamers from the doers. But Julia Ferlazzo is not pitching a new service. She is building a financial partnership team to fund her mission at Northern Arizona University.
As a campus minister with New Life Campus Ministry in Flagstaff, her daily momentum relies on picking up the phone, casting a vision, and finding people who want to invest in the next generation. It requires massive consistency and the ability to handle rejection without taking it personally.

The Ripple Effect at NAU
Northern Arizona University is a major launchpad for the Southwest. It hosts a highly diverse population, including a massive number of first-generation college students. These young adults are breaking new ground for their families. After graduation, they become the backbone of the region’s workforce in high-impact fields like education, healthcare, and business.
This is where the true scale of Julia’s mission comes into focus. When she connects with a student in Flagstaff, the impact does not stay on campus. By reaching these young adults during their most formative years, she is fundamentally shaping the ethics and resilience of the future nurses, teachers, and community leaders who will eventually scatter across the country.

A Family Legacy of Action
That multi-generational impact is something Julia understands firsthand. New Life Campus Ministry is not just an organization she found; it is the environment she was raised in. Her parents, Mike and Dessia Ferlazzo, laid the groundwork for the ministry. Today, it has grown into a robust operation with roughly a dozen ministry leaders and staff members—including her parents—all working together to evangelize and establish students. It is a family legacy of action, and Julia is stepping up to carry the torch into the next era of the campus.
Anchored in the Fire
It was during the hardest season of her own life that this mission truly anchored her. When Julia’s sister passed away from cancer, she watched firsthand as the people in this organization stepped up to support and encourage her. She knew then that she wanted to spend her life helping others navigate their own struggles in that exact same way.

Studies highlighted by the National Child Traumatic Stress Network show that sibling loss frequently shatters a surviving child’s sense of safety and identity. Choosing to channel that profound trauma into a lifelong, outward-focused calling makes Julia the exception to the rule.
The Cold-Calling Mindset
Building a partnership team from scratch means facing a lot of closed doors. Some days are spent entirely on the phone, trying to connect with individuals and set up appointments. During those meetings, she shares her personal story, explains the mission of New Life, and invites them to partner with her financially.
Naturally, a lot of those meetings end in a “no.” In the business world, a string of rejections can easily kill momentum. Julia survives the routine by shifting her perspective on what constitutes a “win.”

Even when the answer is a hard no, she views it as a successful meeting because a seed was planted, and she remained obedient to the time she was given.
Fueling the Grind
This foundational phase of building a support base is just the first step. The actual day-to-day work of sharing the Gospel with students at NAU takes just as much endurance. When the environment shifts and the days get long, Julia leans heavily on her personal time spent in prayer and reading the Bible to find her strength.

The Ultimate Goal
Julia is clear on her ultimate objective. She wants to see NAU students give their lives to Jesus and have their lives completely transformed. She views these students as the future leaders of the world, and her goal is to help them find their footing before they step out into it. She also carries a specific passion for mentoring young women, helping them understand who God is and encouraging them to step fully into the unique purpose meant for their lives.
It all starts with a simple, daily discipline. Until that vision is fully realized, Julia will keep waking up, picking up the phone, and doing the hard work required to keep the mission moving forward.
